Freeride Skiing

J.Janody: freeride in the massif of Bornes.

At 32 years, Jeremy Janody is a professionnal freerider. Constantly looking for steep slopes, this extreme skier tell us his outing in the massif of Bornes, Haute-Savoie.

« Still really engaged, Still wild, the North Face of Tournette is a reference in hallways skiing in the massif of Bornes. This amazing chair that dominated the Annecy area is the surprising theater of alpine’s performance and any kind of adventure : from ski mountaineering race via climbing to the famous spot of ice climbing Varos circus.

In March of spring, the north face has perfect conditions,  an opportunity for me to share with my customers and friends the most affordable itinerary : « the diagonal ».  It is a steep slide and exponed, a front door in the steep slopes skiing .... Often describe as overpriced in the story of some not humble skiers, nevertheless the fall is forbidden at some place and we often found cold and deep snow.

For me it was my seventh time that I come back on this itinerary of the diagonal and this time I was accompagnied by André, Mickael, Philippe and Vincent. All good skiers and motivated to ski this face where the atmosphere is out of the ordinary.

After a summer ascent on the « normal » line, the tone is given by the descent plunging to the Annecy’s lake. The changing snow and the exponed face encourage us to be careful.  Arrived to the Varos’s col we feel better ! The snow allows an easier skiing so we can relax even if tightness is still in our legs. There is no abseil down or dry skiing which is not like that in other hallways of the face which we are looking... Maybe for the next time ?

We finished our descent by the final hallway, steep and a bit exponed. We finally found a shortcut  on a knoll that took us to the river from the circus... it remains only to turn our backs to this face before to go back next year. »
