The Millet Tour du Rutor Extreme is one of the biggest international ski mountaineering competitions, which take place every two years, at the end of March, in Arvier, Aosta valley, on the Rutor Glacier. This competition is part of La Grande Course, an international circuit of ski mountaineering competitions, which consists in La Patrouille des Glaciers in Switzerland, La Pierra Menta in France, and the Trofeo Mezzalama and the Adamello Skirace in Italy. Each edition, more than 300 teams, 600 athletes representing more than 18 different countries, compete on a technical and uncompromising route supervised by the Italian Marco Camandona, great Himalayan alpinist and Millet ambassador.
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Although the first edition of the modern Tour du Rutor was in 1995, this competition is the direct heiress of the Rutor Trophy which took place in 1933, same year of the first Trofeo Mezzalama.
A symbolic event for the world of ski mountaineering, which owes its success especially to the organization: nearly 100 volunteers, 18 responsible for the route, 3 doctors, 43 masseurs, 60 people in charge of logistics, 15 relief staff and 3 International judges.
